therapy

The most important relationship you can have, is the one with yourself.

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they are fed up with ongoing cycles, sometimes a big change or life event has occurred, and other times they just need a bit of help getting back on track. Other times people are yearning for a deeper understanding of themselves.

My passion is to help you create flourishing and authentic lives that resonate with your own truth. I desire to share both explorative and processing understandings with you, as well as equipping you with practical tools and strategies to restore you to the level of functioning you would like. I believe these go hand in hand, and that tools alone cannot provide or sustain longer lasting change without facing, understanding and digesting the deeper roots of matters.

I work with people who may experience any of the following:

Anxiety, depression, substance use and addictions, grief/ loss, adjustment to changes, workplace/home-life/health stressors, violent behaviours, impulsivity, obsessions or compulsions, gender/ identity or sexuality issues, trauma/ PTSD and suicidality. My specialty is with experiences of domestic and family violence matters.

“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.” ~Audrey Lorde

Relationships with others can bring great joy but also, at times, distress and confusion. Joint sessions with significant others can be transformational.

Unravelling hidden patterns and cycles of thoughts, behaviours and emotions can help us reconnect with our true selves and each other. It may be that things have drifted, there are unmet needs, or a more profound longing is difficult to express. All couple types are warmly welcomed.

If undertaking trauma related work, many people find that either longer sessions or weekly sessions are preferable. Trauma work can often take a journey anywhere between 3 months to a couple of years. Your journey is completely yours. I want to see you return to a life with greater capacity and resilience, and go on to lead the life you envisage for yourself.

I believe in asking ‘what happened to you’ not the more medicalised traditional pathology of ‘what’s wrong with you’. This sits within a Power Threat Meaning framework.
