Specialising in women’s mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan, and domestic and family violence matters.
Jen Wiedman
I am authentic, intuitive and curious, respecting that you are the expert in your life. I offer warm and deeply present, interpersonal connections and guided conversational therapy to help address your needs. I particularly specialise in women’s health and wellbeing, marginalised groups and domestic and family violence. I see the therapeutic relationship that we build, as paramount to offering you a pathway to your individual healing and safety needs.
I have been trained in human development and mental health issues across the lifespan. I have extensive experience in understanding and treating psychological distress in both it's everyday and more complex forms. Mental Health Social Workers are trained to keenly understand and unpack the interplay of biological, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual and systemic factors that may be impacting on your situation, and this is where we would begin to explore things together. I use an intersectional Feminist framework across all services.
I believe in the powerful but often under-engaged connection between mind, body and spirit. Inviting in and creating space for listening, observing and feeling inwards can offer incredible wisdom to individual recovery. And I will gently hold this space for you.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Science Human Services, and graduated with Distinction in a Master of Social Work (QUT, Brisbane). I am a full member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and qualified Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. I have additional training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga (introduction level), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Psychosis, Complex Trauma & PTSD Somatic Therapy, Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, Family Systems Work, as well as Domestic & Family Violence Duluth Model of Practice, Supervision and Leadership courses. While I am not a specifically trained couples therapist, I see the partnership between two people as a dynamic system that can be explored through the lenses, training and skills I bring. Should a specific couples therapist be desired (trained in Gottman’s Therapy), I can highly recommend a local option for you.
I adopt an integrative approach of a variety of psychological techniques depending on your preferences and situation.
